This brief examines India's Congress Party electoral victory in the southern state of Karnataka in 2013. It suggests that the party was able to win, despite having to deal with such issues as national level corruption scandals, due to the strong sentiments against the incumbent Bharatiya Janta Party. However, the author argues the Congress party will face more difficulties in state elections to be held later in 2013 as well as India's 2014 general election.
