This paper analyzes the results of Prime Minister Julia Gillard's high-level visit to China in April 2013. It was a visit, at least in Australia's eyes, designed to gain strategic benefits without compromising its alliance with the US. Two of the more noteworthy benefits that Canberra did obtain were a general strategic partnership agreement with Beijing and an updated currency accord.
