This report explores the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) program in South Sudan. In particular, the author examines how the DDR program has evolved, its major implementation challenges and prospects for renewed efforts to disarm and reintegrate fighters. He argues that standard DDR programs are not fit for purpose in the context of South Sudan. It is, therefore, necessary to change the basic mechanisms of armed mobilization prevalent in the country and to reform its security sector.
