This commentary talks about the type of great power relations that China wants with others, such as the US. It suggests that China's actions suggest that it wants a traditional form of this type of relationship, one characterized by the familiar notion of spheres of influence. However, this emphasis on raw power seems to undermine a core element of Chinese diplomacy, i.e., its five principles of peaceful coexistence.
