This Policy Brief looks at the problems raised by the recent revelations about the US' top secret PRISM program. Specifically, it considers the challenges that this intelligence-gathering program poses for the EU, particularly when it comes to maintaining public trust in public institutions and protecting peoples' privacy. An appropriate reaction, the Brief concludes, would be to hone and deploy a robust EU-wide data protection strategy.
