Publication

This paper presents the results of 78 in-depth interviews conducted with self-identified Afghan insurgents. In particular, the interviewees detail their experiences within the insurgent movement and explain why they joined it in the first place. They further describe their hopes for the future and how the Afghan conflict might be brought to an end. In the latter cases, it appears that only the return of a ‘pious’ Islamic government will satisfy those questioned.
