In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan buttressed up Western military operations in Afghanistan by providing access to their military bases. But what does the future hold for them, especially after ISAF forces depart Afghanistan? This report considers the security planning options that both states might pursue, which include the ‘regionalization’ of their efforts.
