This commentary discusses the implications of the agreement of Shared Principles for International Investment for US-EU cooperation for global investment policies. The authors argue that rules for free market access for foreign investors, arrangements for open and transparent investor-state dispute settlement, and the definition of indirect expropriation are too imprecise. According to the authors, the EU and the US therefore need to specify these rules. This is particularly pressing as they have also started negotiations on a comprehensive Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).
