This brief looks at the Sino-Indian competition for hegemony in the Indian Ocean. In particular, it examines 1) whether the Chinese acquisition of Gwadar, a planned 'free trade' port in Pakistan, will undermine India's maritime security, and 2) what steps New Delhi might take to blunt this potential threat.
