This commentary reflects on the implications of political events in Canada in 2013 for Washington’s relationship with Ottawa. It discusses the issues of a political scandal, a resurgent opposition, and a new pro-independence government in Quebec, as Prime Minister Harper enters the second half of his term. The author concludes that he does not expect the events of 2013 to have an impact on ties between the two countries in the short term, although Canadian politics may generate more problematic circumstances in the future.
