This commentary examines how democracy in Hungary has been weakened by political and legal challenges since the 1990s. It then considers the European response to Hungary’s weakening democracy, noting that conflicting political interests have hindered it. The author concludes by recommending that the European Union and the US pay more attention to political developments in Budapest.
