This paper examines the ongoing confrontation between the US and Iran. The authors discuss the Iranian challenge to US hegemony in the Gulf region and Iran's own ambition of achieving regional dominance. The paper explains why the US cannot accept the Iranian regime, its foreign policy or its drive towards nuclear capability. The authors state that the strategies of both countries have led to a classic game of chicken, with neither side being ready to make concessions in order to avoid confrontation.
