This policy brief uses data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) and from the US Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) to analyze trends in US military spending. The author concludes that increased spending on defense personnel in the US has not resulted in increased troop strength and that the ability to project power in connection with military spending is overstated.
