This brief talks about the ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus), which includes the ten ASEAN countries along with Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Russia and the US. The author argues that the ADMM-Plus's focus on practical cooperation shows that Asia's defense leaders are stepping back from grand promises to focus on steps which could build and enhance defense cooperation incrementally. However, he concludes that this pragmatism does not necessarily represent the end of the grand, but unfulfilled, regional visions as such.
