This paper discusses the re-election of Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. The author urges Bouteflika to use his second term in office to further restore the economy and demonstrate the reduced political influence of the army and security forces. The paper emphasizes the need for further democratization in Algeria and explains the desire of both Bouteflika and the army for closer relations with the European Union and the United States.
