This brief discusses the rise of China, how the country will adjust to its new global position, and how the US should react to it. The author argues that China will be a very different superpower from the US and that its future behavior could largely depend on how the US respects international rules and responds to China’s ascension. He concludes that the best way for the US to respond would be to adhere to the set of international rules that it helps bring about as this could help persuade China to follow suit.
