The paper explores opportunities and challenges for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to transition to sustainable energy systems that incorporate clean and renewable energy technologies. In particular, it examines the ability of the GCC countries to deploy solar energy in the mid- to long-term as well as the different conservation measures that have been taken in the region. The author argues that GCC countries could benefit from sharing solar energy findings, especially in the green buildings, solar cooling, and water desalination sectors.
