This paper discusses the role of the European Union in international non-proliferation programs and global disarmament processes. The authors describe the revised patterns of international cooperation on disarmament issues since the end of the Cold War and detail the various institutional activities related to ensuring the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. They also emphasize the need for the European Union to establish itself as an active force in international disarmament and to pursue an active process of collaboration with the United States and other nations.
