This paper first reviews Iran's foreign policy towards Afghanistan from 1979 to the present. It then argues that cooperation between the two states will most likely increase after 2014 and benefit both of them. Tehran, for example, will be able to enhance its status as a regional power while Kabul could rely upon its neighbor to help resolve its internal conflicts.
