This paper assesses some of the key lessons learned in Afghanistan by NATO's International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) and the implication of these for the future cooperation of the transatlantic partners. The author further examines the need for a transitional security strategy in the wake of the 2014 pull-out from Afghanistan.
