This paper examines the security implications for Japan of its unresolved territorial dispute with China over the Senkaku Islands. The author discusses Japan's basic claims and concerns regarding Chinese actions around the islands. She also assesses the impact of Japan's actions on US-Japanese relations and proposes what the US can do to prevent further escalation of the tensions.
