This brief examines the reasons behind the sharp drop in Chinese investment in Myanmar since 2011, the impact of this reduced investment, and prospects for future investment. The author argues that greater foreign investment is needed, particularly in the nation’s underdeveloped and inadequate infrastructure. She concludes that Chinese investors and the government of Myanmar should work together to reduce distrust and increase mutually beneficial investment.
