This commentary discusses the state of the Mexican government and its cross-party "Pact for Mexico". It discusses the pact's attempt at wide-reaching reforms in the face of budgetary constraints and the sometimes violent opposition to its implementation by the Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (CNTE). The author foresees a possible deal with the CNTE and underlines the need for more firmness in pushing ahead necessary reforms in the energy market as well as changes in budgeting.
