This paper looks at China's approach to controlling small arms and light weapons (SALW) trafficking. The authors discuss China's ambiguity towards expanded control of these types of weapons and arms: on the one hand, China is among the least transparent exporters of SALW and very reluctant towards UN regulation, on the other, it clearly states its commitment to preventing illicit trade. The authors conclude by advocating collaboration between states, including China, on controlling SALW trafficking.
