This paper examines the changing role of local organizations and international assistance in Afghanistan after the withdrawal of NATO troops in 2014. The author argues that the focus should not lie solely on military exit methods but also on civilian entry strategies that work towards more sustainable development. He concludes that, to avoid national instability, donors need to increase their aid pledges to match previous levels of assistance and show a commitment to Afghanistan beyond 2016 or 2017.
