This commentary discusses the dangers of training Syrian rebels. The author argues that imparting war-fighting skills to insurgents might backfire and highlights that training the anti-Assad rebel alliance, who are mostly driven by Islamist ideology, would conflict with US foreign policy. Finally, he describes the type of war-training the US should conduct to minimize the risks of the rebels using their lethal capabilities against US forces or interests in a future conflict.
