This paper examines the reasons behind Boko Haram's terrorist acts against state institutions in Nigeria. According to the author, the targeting of state education is in line with the group's ideology which violently opposes western culture and education. Although the counter-terrorism measures by the Nigerian Government have been able to contain the geographical spread of the terrorist attacks, the author argues that these have proven ineffective in curbing violence against state institutions.
