This paper provides a summary of the armed revolt by the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) from 1968-1989, also known as the Second Emergency. It examines the historical backdrop of the conflict, as well as the strategies and interests pursued by the CPM. In concluding, the author argues that infighting, geopolitical developments, as well as the absence of popular support stood behind CPM’s failure.
