This commentary examines the opportunities and challenges for India presented by the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). The author argues that India can benefit from joining the RCEP but needs to take a more proactive approach in the negotiations in order to integrate with the East Asian economies and obtain access to regional markets. He concludes that finalizing the RCEP by 2015 will be difficult and negotiating a bilateral trade agreement with China will be an especially hard task.
