This commentary looks at the increase in robberies committed by terrorists in Indonesia since 2010. The author argues that there are two reasons driving the increase: 1) difficulties in finding international funding and 2) religious justification claiming that the stolen wealth allows more time to devote to terrorist operations. He concludes that the increase in robberies highlights the success of Indonesia’s counterterrorism measures in depriving terrorist groups of their international funding.
