This commentary looks at political developments in Egypt after the ousting of President Morsi by the military in July 2013. It argues that a new generation of military commanders has emerged, whose vision constitutes a blend of Islamism and militarism, laced with anti-Americanism. According to the author, this presents a serious risk of setting back Egypt’s quest for democracy.
