This commentary examines Japan’s strategic partnership with the Philippines. It discusses the increased cooperation between the two countries in the field of maritime security as well as their revitalized economic cooperation. The author argues that the re-energized relationship between the two countries is driven not only by their mutual concern over China’s assertiveness but also their converging economic interests.
