This commentary analyzes the potential implications of the September 2013 attacks in Mindanao on the peace process in the Philippines. The attacks raised concerns that the peace negotiations between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) could come to a halt. The author argues that the challenge for Manila is to pursue a nuanced approach in order not to reignite conflict in Mindanao.
