This commentary discusses the possibility of partitioning Syria after its civil war. The author argues that the nation is not going to become a stable, unified state again anytime soon, let alone a remotely democratic one. He is also of the opinion that, although unlikely to solve its issues with authoritarian political culture, partition could bring about a stable equilibrium and that Washington should keep an open mind regarding this outcome.
