This brief analyses China’s maritime policy and the risk of a conflict escalation in the East and South China Seas (ECSC). The author argues that firm counter-measures notwithstanding, Beijing’s maritime policy is oriented toward crisis management. He concludes by pointing out the usefulness of this policy for US interests.
