This commentary examines the strategic and operational significance of the deployment of the Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning to the South China Sea. The author concludes that such deployments will certainly add to the complexity of ongoing disputes in the area. However, the carrier capabilities may also be utilized to contribute significantly towards stronger regional resilience against future common security challenges.
