This paper focuses on the problems that will confront the Afghan National Security Force (ANSF), and the wider region, after the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan in 2014. The problems include ANSF force reductions and demilitarization, possible Pakistani proxy conflicts, and India's growing discomfort with supplying arms to the Afghan government. To address these challenges and others, the paper concludes by providing a set of recommendations for local regional policy-makers.
