The author of this statement presents his views on ongoing global power shifts, the main threats to global order, and the future cooperation between emerging and established world powers. First, he argues that the US 'pivot' to Asia is, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future, the most important power shift in international affairs. Second, the risks and challenges identified by the EU in 2003 and 2008 continue to be relevant and remain a common challenge for the BRICS and the international community alike. Third, the author believes that the 6th EU-Brazil Summit held in Brasilia in January 2013 may stimulate a new level of cooperation between emerging and established partners.
