This brief describes India's role and strategy during the Ninth WTO Ministerial conference in Bali. The Ministerial concluded with the agreement that India's food security program should proceed unhindered and an endorsement of a trade. The author points out that as much as the Indian government might claim to have forced the key WTO members to accede to its demands, the prospect of isolation in the international trade community and the immediate priorities of the government also made India soften its position considerably.
