This commentary looks at the Vietnamese government's decision to construct its first nuclear plant in 2014 and if this will spur the country's neighbors to follow a similar energy strategy. The author believes that although Vietnam's initiative may act as a trailblazer in Southeast Asia, Hanoi’s nuclear-aspiring neighbors may see renewable energy as a better alternative to the region’s energy issues.
