This paper argues that, as the EU's existing commitments in Afghanistan, including the promotion of democracy, human rights, governance, and economic prosperity, are unlikely to succeed after the withdrawal of troops in 2014; the EU should reduce the resources it has committed to the country. The authors then go on to say that instead of this commitment in Afghanistan, the EU should focus on the Central Asia region as a whole.
