This brief discusses the process and outcome of the Bangladeshi national elections in January 2014. The author describes the context of the elections and the parties involved as well as the reasons for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s boycott of the elections and the impact this had on the outcome. The author also talks about how the elections have affected Bangladesh’s international reputation as a pluralist and democratic country.
