This paper discusses how domestic events in Afghanistan are increasingly affecting US-Afghanistan relations in general, and the signing of the Bilateral Security Agreement in particular. It specifically highlights how Kabul’s plans to release a number of detainees from Bagram prison, the prospective Afghan presidential elections in 2014, and the planned US troop withdrawal, are increasingly straining US-Afghan relations and the region's stability.
