This paper provides an overview of the Fethullah Gülen religious movement and explores the Turkish and German public perceptions of and sentiments toward it. The paper first describes how the movement started and developed in Turkey, focusing on its religious and political parameters and its relations with the Turkish state. It then examines the movement’s status as an international player and provides some recommendations for German decision-makers on how it should be dealt with.
