This commentary discusses China’s announcement of an Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) in the East China Sea. More specifically, it looks at the validity of the ADIZ from an international law perspective and at the implications of such a set up for regional security. The authors conclude by underlining the need of a stronger ASEAN and the relevance of the United States in providing regional stability.
