This commentary focuses on whether Asian air forces will acquire the US-built F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) or not. It concludes that despite its cutting-edge status, the airplane's potential costs and technical challenges may be too much for prospective buyers to bear. There is, by the way, a further question to answer – do Asian air forces really need the capabilities the JSF offers?
