This commentary argues that China should clarify the extent of its exclusive economic zone (EEZ) claims in the South China Sea as this could help to deal with the territorial disputes in the region. The author argues that both China and the ASEAN claimants would benefit from this measure; and that it would allow China to send a clear signal to the international community that it is willing to pursue its interest in accordance with international law. He also suggests that this measure would help restore trust and confidence in the region.
