In light of the withdrawal of international forces in 2014 and ahead of the Ankara Summit, this brief examines the potential future scenarios for Afghanistan. The author suggests that broad international support is needed in order to help stabilize the country and, therefore, multilateral efforts should involve countries beyond Afghanistan’s immediate borders. Likewise, discussions should go beyond addressing the role of Islam in Afghanistan’s political system.
