This paper discusses the objectives and probable outcomes of the UN-led transition period (2001–2014) in Afghanistan, as well as its likely implications for Afghanistan’s future democratic development as it enters into the Afghan-led ‘transformation decade’ (2015–2024). The author then discusses how Australia has and can help shape Afghanistan’s future development.
