This article discusses the effect local anti-Shia propaganda is having on Sunni-Shia tensions in Indonesia. The propaganda, which is linked with the Sunni-Shia conflict in Syria, has provoked attacks and harassment against local Shia Muslims and could potentially provoke a sectarian conflict in Indonesia. Because of this possibility, the article advocates the regulating of hate speech and propaganda within the country, although with an eye towards not infringing on freedom of speech.
